| Description | Norwich cathedral and abbey. Great cathedral abbey of Norwich still dominated city with lofty central spire. Bishopric tranferred here by Normans from small town of Thetford, and served a dual purpose, as bishop's cathedral and as a Benedictine abbey church. View from east, showing apse with three chapels (central is modern) and tall clerestory windows of decorated period. A composite of medieval styles, so final result less designed by architects as evolved by history itself. |
